Insecure creator and star Issa Rae is known for making bold, head-turning statements on the red carpet. It was just last month at the CFDA Awards when the host herself, in a custom Pyer Moss jumpsuit covered in thousands of Swarovski crystals, stole the red carpet with her glamorous royal blue ensemble wrapped with a black belt that read, “Every N*gga is a Star.” And it was almost a year ago when Rae made her viral “I’m rooting for everybody black” remark on the red-carpet at the 69th Primetime Emmys. Talk about iconic.
Aside from her casual, yet witty remarks and gorgeous red-carpet looks, Rae’s stunning natural hairstyles take the icing on the cake. Celebrity natural hairstylist Felicia Leatherwood are the talented hands behind Rae’s hair, and several other natural-haired celebrities including Susan Kelechi Watson, Lena Waithe, and Teyonah Parris. Leatherwood and Rae’s relationship stem back to 2013, where they met one another at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon. And ever since then, the two have created magic and showcased the versatility and beauty of natural hair. With this beautiful half-up, half-down hairstyle, Issa’s hair in the front had a set of cornrows paired with Fulani-style braids and beads on the sides.
