CREATING The Oh Hey Fatima Show S1EP1
Out of all of the series I’ve created on my YouTube channel, The Oh Hey Fatima Show is the first one that I’ve truly dedicated myself to. In 2023, I created a script, wrote and performed the theme song, filmed an intro with the help of my significant other, and went on to star, film, and edit five episodes of The Oh Hey Fatima Show. I transformed all of my ideas into reality. To think that this all happened in a matter of months after reading the two books that changed my life is remarkable. You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay and The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron opened my mind. I learned about myself and reflected on who I want to be and how I want to live my life. If there is one lesson I learned from each of these books, it is the correlation between self-love and creativity. Once you understand that they go hand in hand and you recognize the true power you have when you believe in yourself, the possibilities are endless. No vision is too big or too small. And as one of my favorite principles from The Artist’s Way says, “Creativity is God’s gift to us. Using our creativity is our gift back to God.”
The Oh Hey Fatima Show S1 EP1 was inspired by my own personal apartment hunt. For the longest time, I wanted my own place. I dreamed of freedom, peace, and independence. But as many young people fresh out of college, I couldn’t afford it. Not only could I not afford it, but growing up in a West African family, moving out of your parents’ house before marriage isn’t a common practice. So while I did long for my own apartment, I wasn’t pressed until I was.
The episode starts with the main character, Fatima, talking to her friend Sasha over the phone about her excitement and nervousness about going on her first apartment tours. The episode continues, and we see scenes of the tours that leave Fatima inspired but also defeated. She realizes the harsh reality of the cost of living, especially when it’s the apartment of your dreams.
The Oh Hey Fatima Show is loosely based on my own experiences and has given me the chance to share my story in a fun, creative way. Growing up, I always wanted to be on TV. I wanted to be on Zoom on PBS, I wanted to be on Disney Channel, and I wanted to be on Nickelodeon. The inspiration behind my show includes, but isn’t limited to, these sitcoms: That’s So Raven, Sister, Sister, One on One, and Martin. Watch The Oh Hey Fatima Show “Apartment Hunt” S1 EP1 below.
