CREATING The Oh Hey Fatima Show S1EP3

Growing up, I loved singing and dancing. I dreamed of being a singer. My parents bought me a karaoke machine for my birthday one year, and it was one of the best gifts I ever received as a kid. I was able to sing along to my favorite songs, perform, play my CDs and cassettes, and dub songs (there was an art to dubbing songs on the radio to a cassette tape perfectly). I will never forget the first time I saw Alicia Keys’ “Fallin’” music video on TV. I wanted to be just like her and would spend time in my room writing songs in my notebook. I think the things we loved to do as children are a reflection of the path we take as adults in some shape or form. Writing and performing is something I’ve always enjoyed, and I’m glad I get to continue this as an adult.

The Oh Hey Fatima Show S1 EP3 is an ode to all the kids who forgot to take the meat out of the freezer before their mom came home from work. I wanted to make light of a relatable scenario, and of course, I also had to include a sing-a-long moment to “Alien Superstar” by Beyoncé. There’s nothing like belting out to your favorite songs with a hairbrush. This short and sweet episode marks the midway point of season one.

The Oh Hey Fatima Show is loosely based on my own experiences and has given me the chance to share my story in a fun, creative way. Growing up, I always wanted to be on TV. I wanted to be on Zoom on PBS, I wanted to be on Disney Channel, and I wanted to be on Nickelodeon. The inspiration behind my show includes, but isn’t limited to, these sitcoms: That’s So Raven, Sister, Sister, One on One, and Martin.
